Teraflex® Quick Disconnect Sway Bars: 1998 Jeep TJ (skill level 2)

by Jeff Keegan

This is a very simple modification that can be completed in about 1 hour or less and will save you a lot of trouble on the trail. No more crawling in the mud or snow with 2 wrenches to get your truck to flex to it's full potential.

Tools:
  • Drill
  • Assorted Wrenches
  • Locktite
  • Tap Wrench, Tap and Bit (the kit will tell you which tap and bit you will need)
  • Sharpie Marker
  • Center Punch or Awl

1. Remove the stock sway bars completely. This may be a bit of a hassle but just keep pulling on the bolt and it'll come free.

2. Attach lower sway bar connectors on both sides in the spot the stock sway bar connects to the frame. Don't forget the lock-tite.

3. Attach the sway bars to the cross bar that rotates up and down. Don't forget the lock-tite.

4. Get another person to help you for a minute.

5. What you need to do is hold the sway bar up to the frame on both sides at the same time so you can mark the position to drill your hole for the mounts that hold the sway bars out of the way while they're disconnected. When you have the sway bars in a satisfactory position out of the way, use your marker to mark where the holes will be drilled.

6. Center punch the marks so your drill doesn't slip when you start drilling.

7. Drill holes.

8. Tap holes.

9. Screw in the mounts for the disconnected position. Don't forget the lock-tite.

10. Test everything out.

11. Now you'll be able to disconnect and reconnect your swaybars in 30 seconds or less. WooHoo!
